How can Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) help you?
It isn’t a kept secret that Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture is great at remedying things like pain, anxiety and fertility-issues as information is abundance on the internet. However not much is known about this particular advantage TCM has — to treat suboptimal health status a.k.a sub-health.
What is sub-health, and why does it need to be treated?
In short, suboptimal health status is defined as a state characterized by some disturbances in psychological behaviours or physical symptoms, with no typical pathologic features.
It is considered as an intermediate stage between health and disease, which is not quite either status.
Metaphorically,
if perfectly healthy is “white”, and ridden with sickness is “black”,
sub-health would be the grey area. In my humble opinion though, I like
to think of this as a stage before a person gets really sick.
When a person is in the state of sub-health, they might not have a “disease” that can be diagnosed, however discomforts/symptoms are apparent either physically or mentally. Sub-health can be broadly categorised to two types:
To give an example of the first type of people, a lot show signs like mental exhaustion, fatigue, stomach ache, reduced appetite, restless sleep, short-tempered, poor memory, flu-prone etc; but when they get examinations at the hospital, they found nothing at all, and get told they are healthy! If only that was true. People affected by things like these have an impaired life quality, being affected mentally and physically.
As for the second type, they might not suffer from discomforts or have any symptoms, but using modern day medical examinations they would fall in-between “healthy” and “unhealthy”; an example would be people who have early stage Type II diabetes, they might not have any discomfort nor symptoms that bother them. If they get their fasting blood sugar level checked they will see the anomaly but yet can not be diagnosed as diabetic (the threshold has not been met). This will qualify them as people with sub-health.
Traditional Chinese medicine has accumulated much experience and study in treating sub-health.
Practitioners see patients as a whole system and collect information by observing a person’s mental and physical expression (such as complexion, posture, tongue, pulse), lifestyle details, etc.
Combining all these information and processing with Chinese medicine theory, practitioners are then able to determine what is the best course of action to take to restore the balance in the body.
There are so many TCM treatment methods that can be applied on any given person to improve their health, be it herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion, cupping, exercises recommendation, meridian percussions, Qigong, Tuina, depending on what the person need, we will tailor a treatment plan specifically for them.
There’s a great saying: “Prevention is greater than cure”. So, if you think you are a sub-healthy, or simply wanted to improve your own well-being, or you’re already annoyed by some of these following symptoms; don’t be a stoic kiwi and ask for help! We will help as much as we can!
